Why Record Pools Work

Working on becoming the next Mary J. Blige, Aerosmith or Method Man?  We suggest starting with Record Pools. What are Record Pools? Record Pools are agencies that set up to distribute audio promo materials to disc jockeys. These Djs are comprised of radio Djs and underground Dj that spin in clubs and house parties. Many Djs across the country are either affiliated or members of their local and many nation-wide record pools.

Generally, what happens is a Dj receives your music via tape or cd, listens to it, likes it and because he or she wants to be the person that has the latest and greatest new music, they play your laced lyrics or trac at your local club or party, and sometimes even on the radio. So you may say to yourself, I'm not getting paid for the playing of my music. Well think about this way, Dj play your song a person there hears your music and is entranced by the song. Walks over to the Dj and says "who's that?" Dj, says check out the case some new group or artist. That person get your information from the cd and finds a way to purchase your cd. You now have a fan. Then while that person is riding to the mall or on daily errands with a friend listening to your music and then that person says "... who is that I love this trac!!!" You now have two fans. This is actually how things happen. Word of mouth is the oldest form of marketing and the generally the best.

Early on in your adventure to become a successful music maker your gonna spend versus receive. But if you create a buzz in the streets and a name for yourself success will generally follow. Artist like Jay-Z, and many others have been on the scene for years before they reached major league status but there music was being heard and purchased by the few that transcended into the masses.

Digital Distribution

If you currently working in the music industry you have found out making the music is not the only bridge that you must cross. DISTRIBUTION, this is that many in the industry love and hate all at the same time. Why is this so important. Well, once you finish recording in your friends studio and then it is dropped down to a DAT (digital audio tape) then it is recorded to a tape or in this day and age a compact disc. Well, you say that's simple where does the D- word come. Let's say you are currently giging across country with your band or group and you have a cd and tape of your latest project. The place you just performed is not in your home town. If a person in the audience wants your cd where will he or she go and purchase it after you have left there city? Wharehouse music? Target? Or maybe they have a Camelot music there? Doesn't matter though your music is not on there shelves. That is what distribution does for you, it puts your music in place you have been and may never go but your music is there. And with technology today you do much of this on-line. Sites like Liquid Audio, Amazon,  and Ampcast are only a few site geared toward giving you that world-wide exposure your music deserves.
