Choosing a College or University - Finding the right one for you.
If your reading this, it may be safe to assume that you are thinking about attending an institution for higher learning.  Ok, thinking is not quite the proper word.  Maybe worried or panicked may work better.

We're here to help.  Finding the right school is a challenge, but there is no need for hysterics.  The United States has by far the largest University system in the world.  The chance that you won't be accepted into college, even to a "good" college is slim.

Here you will find tips and resources to help you make a decision.  We will also show you how you can get scholarship money and grants, and also where to go to get student loans.

There are a lot of choices out there, and knowing what the colleges want can help you find the one that's right for you.  Here is some advice from the experts.

  • Use the Internet  The Web is one of the easiest tools to use for doing research.  All of the schools have web sites, and it's far less time consuming than calling the admissions offices to get the info you need.
  • Compare the Schools  Start out by deciding which type of training is best for you.  Do you need a technical education, a two or four year program, medical school, or graduate work.  Take into consideration geographic location, admission requirements, the faculty and if they offer job placement.  Again the best place to start is the internet.  Tap into the sites that help you access what is important to you.  Some great sites to start:

                       embark.com
                       The Princeton Review
                       U.S. News & World Report

  • Decide on a Specific School  After your comparison, start to gather information about specific schools.  Most all of the colleges have web sites, so start there.
  • Go on a Tour  Start your tour with the schools web site.  Gather all of the information you can.  Another great place to look is Campus Tours.  When your list gets smaller arrange for a tour of the physical campus.  Go during the academic year, while classes are in session.  Visit the library, and attend some events with students.  After your visits. you should have a pretty good idea an where you would like to attend.
  • Apply to the School of Your Choice  Some of the schools will allow you to do this online, others through the admissions office.  Some will let you use the early decisions program, but remember this is usually binding and you might change your mind down the road.
  • Get Financing  Whether you need a scholarship or a student loan or you qualify for a grant.  Negotiate with your school about tuition.  Go to our Financial aid page for more information
